Hey all, a Breif introduction for my first post...

I've had three months official training in 3D Studio Max 2.5, from a peice o' crap one year college called Katherine Gibbs in Montclaire, NJ. It was so ill-prepared, it's a wonder we learned anything at all. But, we did have a proffesional in the buisness, who worked on the 3D effects for the Lost in Space movie, as our 3D Studio Max teacher, so it wasn't a total loss.

Anyway, for the past 4 years after I left the school, I've basically been teaching myself this program. I could barley afford the Educational version, so there's no hope of me upgrading to Max 4 Retail anytime soon, so I need some help.

Above, is a picture of 3 comic characters that I created a few years ago. I made 500 strips, and put them in storage for a while. Recently, I dug them up, and decided to revamp the whole strip, with one major change. I now want it to be completly 3D. But, I have NO idea how to set up a skeleton for it. All the tutorial links I've found are either no longer available on the server, or are for other MAX versions. And if I moved the characters around by verticies, it would really mess it up.

So, what I need is a Bones/IK Rigging Tutorial for Max 2.5 that explains it step, by step. The characters body and legs are one ojbect, as are the arms. The head is seperate, as are the hands.
Or, if someone with Character Studio can whip up a Biped Skeleton for it, that would also do the trick.

Any help will be appreciated, Thanks!

If you have character studio running under 3dsmax 2.5 then why don't you attempt to rig it yourself? New versions of CS are not backward compatable so I think you need to find someone who is also running legacy versions of max and CS to swap files.

I seem to recall bones pro a was pretty good solution back in the day.

Again if you have CS, then you could also physique a bone system of your own design...

BTW - Separate the legs & keep on keepin on!

Heya,

As stupid as this sounds, I didn't realize that a Trial Version of Character Studio came with Max 2.5 Edu untill I really took a look at the CD this year, hoping to find a way to get it to work on Windows XP. When I tried ot installed it, it asked for a Serial Number/Authorization Number, wich I didn't have. So I'm assuming that means I'd have to purchase it in order to get one. Sadly, I don't have enough for it.

So, my only other solution is to find a good tutorial, or someone who has Character Studio in order to make it operational.

Maybe you could have some fun (today) by animating with FFD's

Remember you can add an edit mesh to the geometry pipeline and make multiple FFD's deform various parts of your character.

Bend and twist modifiers can also be fun! :bounce:
