I'm trying to create a carpet surface and I usually use scanline or brazil for my interiors but now I'm trying to use radiosity in max and it doesn't seem to work very well.

I was using noise to try and create the fine carpet bump and the scuffed effect. It looked good untill I turned on radiosity.

I've attached an example of whats happening.

can anyone suggest a solution?

use brazil renderer and give ur carpet a velvet shader under brazil's advanced mat.

To solve the messed up effect you get (without having to dish out for Brazil) with radiosity you need to change your material to an "advanced lighting override" type. Then change the "indirect light bump scale" to something lower.

Hope this helps

Max5 is right, that should rectify your problem. Dom, while Cuzz did say he had Brazil, telling him to use it isn't really an answer to his question is it? :)
