Title: Industrial
Name: Petra Richli
Country: Canada
Software: Illustrator, Photoshop, XSI

This is my newest portfolio piece. I've modeled and rendered the scene in XSI. After using Maya, this is the first finished render in XSI. I've rendered several passes (diffuse, ambient occlusion, spec, reflection, 2 shadow, dirt, depth..) the final render is put together in photoshop, some highlights are hand painted. Textures are done in Photoshop, some like the dials started in Illustrator.

Comments are welcome.

I'm a huge fan of old worn environments, and this is fantastic! The modeling and texturing is wonderful, and the lighting gives it a great "stumbled upon" feel - excellent job!

I also appreciate the texturing (and modeling) very much. But also, the composition is excellent, with the lighting and shadowing strengthening it. A nice smooth balance of design principles and a gracious feel.

Would like to suggest improvements, but can't spot anything to improve - well maybe a bit stronger center-of-interest to give the eye somewhere to rest a bit.

Thanks again for all the positive comments! I really appriciate it.

That-JC: i totaly agree on your center-of-interest comment. I might just add some more small details on the round thing, i thought about a sign hanging down.

hey Petra!

Nice to see the picture here. As mentioned before attention to details, lighting, and textures are top quality. I also love the color palette here, works so well... can't wait your next picture!

hey Petra,

I'm really glad you showed this piece over here. This is the best version yet. I also agree with most of the comments about the texturing and lighting. You are really good at making things look dirty and old and rusted.

Talk to you later,

Fer

This is a nice picture! This looks like an old tired place. When I looked at this image, I was instantly reminded of images by Oscar Chiconi. The mood/lighting/texture gives it that feel. Really good stuff!!! .....Gus

vijjuworld, most of the textures started out with some images from cgtextures.com, but they are all totaly changed and layered over each other multiple time. all the scratches, highlights and many details are handpainted. the psd files are huge! thank god, i've bought a new computer:-)

thanks again for the great comments.

Impressive work, the textures are brilliant! A little work on the rendering/lighting and it would look extremely photorealistic, but it's still great otherwise. Very artistic, keep it up! =)

Xeron3d: thanks for your response. could you tell me on what exactly you would work more to make it more photorealistic?

Great work Petra!

Only thing I can think of in terms of critique is the general focus point as I believe someone mentioned. Iif you add a couple of highlights on the big turning knob on the right I think it would give the viewer an improved point of focus.

But really great work! I love this one.

Take care, and see you in January!
T.
