Is it possible to achieve a paint brush light trail effect in LW 9??

I've attached a screen grab from AE. I know i can get this effect in Maya and from Trapcode.

However, i've got scenes setup in LW9 i would like to "weave" in and out of with the "brush."

Any help appreciated.

check this out, not paint fx but pretty easy to do light trails.

here is a better explanation of the first link.

yeah i just saw that a little bit ago.

i am not very good at texturing procedurals. any idea how i would get that "brush" style effect?

ha, just looked at the banner on cgtalk and there is an animation from Vancouver Film School that has the "puma" or something running with light trails.

there is no texture in the tutorial above, just plain color, an weightmap and a plugin wich delays some of the poly's so it looks like a tail, also has adittive transparencies so u cand see through.

I wonder if this is possible just with LWs photoreal motion blur:-

Take a look in the 9.3 Gallery forum for a post called:-

9.3 : 2-point-polys and motionblur fun!
Dated: 08-01-2007 by ztreem

Its not in the beta section so anyone who's a member should have access.

It doesn't say much about how to do it other than using 1 or 2 point polys and tons of MB. I wonder whether just moving a luminous sphere around very quickly would do it. I've not tired it mself but it looks to do something very similar to what you're after.

yeah,

tried the motion blur, but that does not do it. i had quick moved a light source to see if it did anything.

no luck. will check out your other suggestion.

thank you.

I'm pretty sure lights wont work you need geometry. I created a two point poly for this one, moved it over two secons, set the blur length up so that the aperture was open for the entire animation and then rendered frame zero.

Is this the sort of thing you were after?

Ooops, I should also say that i had 1000 MB passes on tihs and about 14000 in the luminosity channel for the object.

that looks more like it ;)

what i really hope to achieve is more of the organic light look when you capture a flash light with an open shutter camera.

this should help. thanks shaun.

If you want a thicker trail, go to the object properties of your poly chain, edges tab and increase it's pixel size. Here's one with corona added.

Wow.
Nice tricks but if you really need to get done easily and use geometry..go download Trailer.

Modela long poly strip. Animate you null and it'll follow it.

Texturethe strip to look like a brush using uvs, texture maps, etc

And add some glow in lw or ae...

I would go for AE on this. There is no need going 3D for effect like this, when you can easily do them in post.

Cheers
