Hi everyone...
Well I'm pretty new at this...& amateur too...so I'm just walking my first steps in photoshop/wacom painting...
I'd like to share with you a WIP of what could be a funny death character...
first with no background, & then with a downloaded background, just to set up an environment...

I know there's a long way to go from here, but you have to start somewhere...
Please critique!!! Be as mean as you can be!
Most of the work around here is pretty intimidating...:D

Cute concept!

Nice background.
My only crits at this stage are fuzzy edges and coloring.

Try working at a higher resolution when you are painting, so that your lines will not be as jagged. You can either have the original image at 200-300px resolution (rather than the monitor standard of 72ppi), or you can magnify the areas you are painting to about 200-300% of viewing size, so that you are working at a high level of magnification. The downside of the latter, is that your lines will look very jaggy as you paint them. The first suggestion will make it easier to paint, visually, but may slow your system down a bit, because the image may be so large. It is a bit of a trade off. Many artists work on separate parts of their images at high resolution, and then, when complete, assemble them into one image, resizing resolution for either Web or Print.

The graveyard needs a bit more "ambiance" lighting, if only to subtly give all the tombstones the depth you gave the ones on the left. Also, unless you plan to paint in a cloudy sky, skies are not gray...

It's a nice piece, doesn't look like you're intimidated at all. Glad you posted this!
