View Full Version : The Golden Compass :: Production Focus
PaulHellard 12-13-2007, 10:34 PM Hey there,
CGSociety has posted an indepth feature story about the CG Bears in the story. How they were created in at Framestore-CFC. Some excellent insights into the many ways they are melded into the film to interact with the live-action humans.

nice one.but the article was way to much inclined towards the effects of the polar bears.i think all the other studios who worked on the movie deserved more than just a tiny little paragraph in the article .

In all fairness, it is introduced by PaulHellard as 'an indepth feature story about the CG Bears in the story'. So it's not a general write up about all the VFX present in the film. There's always Cinefex for that.

Or the two slightly less in-depth articles over at vfxworld (part 1 (http://www.vfxworld.com/?atype=articles&id=3476) and part 2 (http://vfxworld.com/?atype=articles&id=3478&page=1))

That is true....buuuuttt...
The second page has imagery almost entirely from Rhythm and Hues. (Monkey, Stel, Pan) And even the bear shot has rhythm's dogs in the bg...
anyhoo, I do think the bears are very nice...just thought it was interesting they put our animals in a Framestore article...
just saying, in true fairness...

i strongly concur with the remarks of others who cite the use of imagery created by other studios. it's a disservice to the men and women who poured their hearts into creating those images.

Hello,
The article is great, but its more focused on framestore-cfc's contribution to the film and especially on the making of cg Bears.
but the second page has most of the animals done by Rhythm and hues Studios.
it would have been great if there was a seperate article, on the huge contribution of rhythm and Hues studios made to the movie Golden Compass .
Best

Don't forget to check out the film title at Forget the Film, Watch the Titles. The Golden Compass opener was designed by Richard Morrisson who recently joined the multimedia studio Th1ng, UK. It's a very short film title, but nice. A version with sound is not yet available:

Interesting article and great pictures, thanks!
Edit: By the way, Kidman plays Ms. Coutler, not the magisterium.
