Oh, Maya Live? RTFM :)
haha just kidding.. anyways, I use quicktime pro to convert my movies to image sequences. So you could either make your avi a .mov using after effects or any compositing program, or you could just use the compositing program to export the avi as an image sequence. You can use pretty much any image format, I know that Targas, Jpegs, and Tiffs will all definately work.
So anyways, heres how you do it with quicktime -
Open Movie
File - Export..
Export: Movie To Image Sequence
then click options, and choose a file format. You can leave all the other options alone.
Then just click ok and click save and it will export an image sequence to wherever you saved it.
I dont know if you're an after effects user or a premiere user or combustion or whatever, but if you want me to tell you how to export it as an image sequence in AE then just post a reply and let me know and I 'll tell you.
Hope some of this was helpful
