i dont know if i understand you correctly.
you want that your 6 monitors are illuminate the environment?
if this is what you want take these steps.
place a spotlight inside the monitor. exclude the mintor from casting shadows. use the fallof to reduce the light amount at the distance. use a rectangle cone of the spotlight and adjust the spect and size to the size of the monitor.
set a omni direct bevor the monitor and adjust the fallof to a little bit more that the monitor, to simmulate a bit diffuse lighting.
assign a self illuminated material to the front side of the monitor and add a bit glow in post.
use these steps for every monitor.
hop this helps...

Yes, you quite correct! I wasn't sure because i know that there is some script light and so on.. I couldn't get the smooth effect of lights and I dunno how exactly light sources must be located to create a natural bitness.
I would be greatful if somebody could give me link on lights tutorial or something like that!
Thanks any way!
You might try a directional spot with a soft volumetric (projecting the same map as the moniotrs) and make up the rest of the effect with attenuated omni's.
Looks like you may need to up the shadow maps, and your light source is a bit close to the monitors producing wide shadows.
BTW - setup one volume light before adding the other 5, just to get faster feedback. If you still don't like the results after these suggestions I would be willing to relight your zine so you can take it apart. I have been lighting for >11 years.

http://www.hot.ee/hlam3/room.zip - scene(106Kb)
http://www.hot.ee/hlam3/textures.zip - textures(2Mb)
I set blue color to all light sources to catch the night time effect, but.. I dunno it look like justa blue room!

done! and here is the link: http://www.hot.ee/hlam4/flat-model.zip
Ls3D i think let it be open source if some one will face with the same problem there will be a solution!
And thanks fod helping me! :bounce:
Full stomach and back on the lighting model,...
This is dense volumetric projection, no secondary lighting yet, and as you can see not many surfaces illuminated, just the volume and part of the floor/loft. Now for some secondary lights....

my try :)
quick&dirty light setup.
OK Digi, here is what I was suggesting: I will zip it up next.

I had to delete the previous baseline file, maxed out on FTP space. Here is the scene posted above, with maps.
Turn off global omni (squished) and play with other lights and volumetric density settings to see what I did. Hope you like.

Thanks! Looks great(just like I wanted it to be)! As soon as I set the textures on objects I'll post the result and then I'll show what I realy wanted to create(idea was to mix 2D and 3D)..
Also feels like I got a lot to learn..:)
Again thanks!

So here is what i've came to:

Any critics wanted:) Ye and there was one moment while working with the scene, render time about an hour! ls3D what computer do you use?
Ls3D what computer do you use?
P4 1.7Ghz 256 ram Win2k Pro
I just did a test render of the file I uploaded, 4:54.
Reduce shadow maps to 512, remove any raytrace material and optimize those lofts if you want the same scene to render faster on your box. And of course turn off volumetrics when tweaking other scene details.

Yep! Been there, done that (second render, after removing any raytrace materials, were 20 min) :D
I work on P3 866Mhz 128 ram(I guess my w2k were to overloaded; at one time i were surfing eNet, listening winAMP, downloading movie and finaly rendring)
..so what do you say ls3D my work looks creepy(and especialy 2D girl in front) or not?
Looks dark and creepy alright, the 2d backlighting is good.
How is your monitor calibration? I like to work on the edge of perception and some times this is lost on an overly dark monitor.
Crits: Just a tiny bit more light may give the pic more depth, and a billboard of your 2d character (in the scene) could cast shadows and pick up subtle reflections, in other words composite her in 3D. You can export an .ai path from photoshop to get a qucik clean cutout imported into max.
FYI - I just tried a falloff shader in the self illumination channel and put it on the lofts - kinda cool. I'm actually raytracing the whole scene with anti-aliased raytracer just to see If I can.
Waz up with those hands? I'm sure you have plans to fix...
Have fun - I'm going to log off.

ye, you right looks cool! I was interested wires are also set raytrased material? Maybe they'll look more natural with plastic texture?!
I want to ask you a favour could you render the scene with raytrased materials and put on monitors screens like on my dark version? Because render on my box it will take eternity!
By the way check out my lates 2D works:

what is "Shea" ?
Sorry bro, I can't edit/render for you at this time - so perhaps you could just render the still overnight?
RE: The loft/wires are self illuminated with a falloff shader - not a natural look - I was just playin around - loose it.
