Shiva the Hindu god.
This statue in New Delhi - India is one of the largest statues of Shiva in India. The 62 1/2 feet tall statue is made of iron, cement and concrete and is raised on a platform 20 feet from the ground.
Worked on lowpoly mesh for a day, will fix some proportions and take it into mudbox for next level of sculpting. Hope to finish this on time as i'll be away on vacations for NYE.

it's great ! Do you plan to set the pose in the low poly model, then subdivide it and add detail ? Or do you plan to fully model it and then pose it ? It could help for my own colossus, actually :)

here is a very slow update with one day of work. its quite hard to work at the time of holidays so i guess i'll be updating this after i come back from vacations.
This is the 2nd subdivision level.

groutcho: i model the very basic lowpoly model then take it in mudbox, set the topological axis and then do body proportional changes in lowest subdivision. then as i further subdivide the mesh, i sculpt according to the resolution getting into more detail. its important to work on the form and shape before you get into details.

DDS: why not post some pictures of it hehe! i'm missing references for its back and side so they'll be helpful or i'll have to model it from my imaginaion :)

Steve Zissou: thanks for correcting. yes Lord Shiva is suppose to be Male.

Comments are welcome...

Nice to see one of the Indian Gods. That too Siva! Wow! Good luck with it.

Also you should model him with a well-built body (not overly-built though). I mean pull his stomach in, give slight definition of abs, define his chest, arms and all that. Siva wears his hair as a tuft or lock. So I'm so excited to see that. :bounce: Also, he wears an anklet on one of his legs. He wears a tiger skin around his waist, drapes the elephant skin over his shoulder. His skin is kind of violetish, and has a bluish neck. He has a snake coiling his neck and the lock of his hair. If possible you could also picture a stream of water flowing out of the tip of his hairlock - which is River Gangā (Ganges).

Man, after seeing this, I remembered of a beautiful pose of Siva which suits this challenge soooo. It's called urdhva tandava (a dance where his leg is lifted upwards).
Here's the link to it:

If you can pose this model to the above pose, it'd look so awesome...

Good luck again...

hi there...here is a very rough composite wip image. Still few modeling tweaks left and a lot of compositing work to be done...only 2 days left.
Base modeling of all parts done in maya then imported into mudbox for detailing. Thne exported to zbrush for material and final image in photoshop. Will post other views too once finished.
Comments are welcome.
