I want to buy a book for maya and I read that Mastering Maya 3 is really good, however I use Maya4 and thats why I want to know if there is much difference between Maya3 and 4.

I know the Maya basics and worked allready with other 3d programs, do you think I should buy an other book?

Mastering Maya 3 is pretty good...

they show you all of the options that can be used in Maya 3 and those tutorials are usable in Maya 4 without any problem ( since there wasnt any major changes from maya 3 to Maya 4)

However, when making a lesson the files mentioned in the Book were not always the files found on the CD ... ( Building a Character Advanced ) made by (Haeyoung Moon ).

They go too fast on explaining some the Modeling tools, they simply jump some of the steps that are required to achive the example they want you to do ... you simply pass your time re-reading it to understands something that would be easier if they would have told you.

They should have included a special section to show you how to setup an environment in Maya... (outdoor/indoor scene)

Overall i loved it so much that this is the book that used the most in 3d (even if him from a 3ds max background ) ... i never though that i would use this book so much that its even now ripped in 2 Halfs ... after repeated readings ...

Hiya All :),

I have the same question as iC4-. I went down the local book store but I still wasnt sure wether to get Mastering Maya 3 or not.

i was also wondering most of the Maya books deal with organic modelling. I'm more interested in architechtural / structural geometry creation i.e for Game engines level design :D

Is there any good book out there for that specific purpose - i cant find Learning Maya | Games and Interactive anywhere and dont have the means to order things online.

or do you people think Mastering maya 3 will arm me with the necessary skills to jump into level design :D

ps: i'm completely new to maya any help would be appreciated :)

this one is good but doesnt show you how to work on a step by step aprouch

if you Pick Mastering Maya 3 you cant be wrong Man .... run to your local store and get it ... however you wont be able to make most of it in the first months, prepare to work hard really hard.
