View Full Version : Cube WIP
Matthewma 04-19-2003, 10:52 PM Hey all, been working on a new project that I thought I would share so tell me what you think;
Hey guys, there has been some misunderstanding that this was a joke; yeah teh wire frame was me having a little fun; but I am starting my first small animation project with a bunch of cubes.
This being my first time using final gathering and such I wanted some feedback on how it looked and what I could do differently since I seem to have that final gather generic look.

I'd just like to mention that Matthewma has let me know that this is, in fact, a serious WIP, and not actually a joke.

in this case, uhh... your FG definately needs work.
the default settings are 1000 rays with 1 radius...
lower that to like 200-300 and decrease the radius to .1-.5 or something. add a keylight casting ray traced shadows. make your bg color the color of your sky. that basically simulates daylight.
Uhm, that's a mighty fine cube there:hmm:
Anyway, you say it's got too much of an FG generic look, but what kind of look were you after? It's not really easy to give you any critics on a cube set in a skylight if you don't give any info on what it's supposed to be for

This is a 4th or 5th dimension puzzle, isn't it? It's not really about the cube.

Thanks, everyone;
wgeddes, not sure what you mean; I am using xsi so there may be different terminology of the settings.
But do you think I should try to simulate daylight? I was trying to go for more of a surreal look; but maybe adding a real life lighting scenario would be better.

I don't know about the rules of this forum that much, as I don't have a ton of time to read them all, but I just wanted to say that I happen to work for the CUBE ART division of the National Film Board of Canada, and I would like to offer you a job if you are interested.
I know it sounds odd, to have a cube art division, but we here at the Film Board are quite serious about our art, and a lot of people are very short sighted when it comes to cube art. Let me know, and we could get in touch some how.
