View Full Version : Help just centering the object in the screen
LanMan_themovie 04-19-2003, 09:00 PM I must have a setting off somewhere that's screwing me up.
Usually I just hit 'F' to center the selection, or 'A' to center everything. That still works. The problem is rotating around it. I hold my ALT and LMB down like normal, rotate a little and the object flies right out of the screen. It's obviously not pivoting right around the object and I can't tell what it is pivoting around.

you could always go "modify-centerpivot" on the object. Then select it, then press F, then see if that works?

Yeah, the object's pivot is centered. It does this on every shape, it seems. I just created a new file and made a poly cube in the center, and it still does it.

Try this just for fun...make a new camera. See if you still have the problem with that camera. That way we know if it's your default camera....or something else.

hmm.. Try mocving the maya folder out of your user directory and launching Maya. this will create default prefs for the program reveal wether or not some setting is whacked or not.

Ok, here's what I did now, and I may have fixed it but I'm not sure. I did rename my Maya folder so that it would create a new one. But then I opened the old file with objects in it and the problem was back.
So I put my old Maya folder back.
Then, I opened a new folder, and imported the old file into it, and the problem wasn't there. I saved it, and so far so good.
... so this all makes me feel better... kind of.
:hmm:

There is also a workspace.mel created in your project directory that may be related to such a problem.
