View Full Version : Can I export stuff from maya into a Flash or Illustrator file?

I'm doing a little Flash animation here, and I was thinking of modeling some of it first in Maya. Is there an easy way to layout a shot in Maya and then export it to some kind of format for those other programs.

I would want it with or without animation export capability. I would like to animate it first in Maya, but either way.

Maya 5's new vector renderer I think is exactly what you want... can you wait about a month and then drop some serious cash to get Maya 5 and its vector renderer? otherwise, I dunno...
Cheers,

i'm also into flash animations and am very very interested into seeing how maya handles those vectors ;)

Holy crap that looks awesome.

But, unfortunately I only have til next Tuesday for this project. That's the initial date decided on, I may be able to slide it a few days if I don't finish, but a month won't work.

if you need it now maybe inkworks from cambridge animation systems could be of a help. I have not used it myself but i have seen good results by it.

Hmmm, I was thinking - what about 3D Studio Max? I just got access to that at my new job, is there an easy way to do it from there?

(maybe I should re-post this on the Max boards?)

You can still use maya 4/4.5 to make flash movies. I do it all the time, just import the finished movie into flash. The trick is not to make the scene really detailed, and don't use a ton of colors/shadow. Otherwise the final flash file will be huge. If you use toon shaders, or just surface shaders, you will just have solid color which flash can vectorize easily. Then you can import the movie into flash and publish.

take a look at
http://www.cambridgeanimation.com

There is a plugin called swiftworks for flas output.

:-)

And yes... MAX can render to flash as well... Max uses Swift 3d for it and it does a good job (so i've been told)

the new Maya 5 will render to flash as well.... ALSO swift 3d - but under another technology name > havok" something "

read the whole article on swift 3d website from erain.

It still makes the filesize a little bigger than a standard keyframe flash. But trying to do animation like this in flash would be a nightmare.

haha... nice :D

how big is it anyway ?
framerate ? - i guess you could do with a smaller size and get away with a better quality

overall it's nice :)
