View Full Version : Character: Dilophosaurus
betelgeuse 04-19-2003, 05:32 PM Older Wings model I was thinking about going back and perhaps redoing from scratch. It is finished as far as I'm concerned, but am interested in comments if you have any.

I'd definitely say its worth working with again! Its a good model overall, the body is excellent. the only things I'd work with modeling-wise would be the upper neck and head. Texturing-wise the only things that struck me were that the bump mapping seems too strong and in needs a spec map (or a stronger one).
nice stuff:beer:

I definetly agree the textures needs a bit of work. It can turn out to be a decent piece when the textures are redone.

A gree, but i think the textures need alot of work not just a bit. Right now it looks to procedural. The colors are also very saturated and flat, i dont think in nature especially for a dinosaur this old to have colors that bright. Put some scras on it, and alot of dirt and youll be in buisnes. and yes, put it in a better pose more dynamic at least. It also looks like he has had his teeth brushed recently and i dont nkow my history to well, but i think that this one might be a little to young to have dental care.
But as far as modeling goes the neck needs some care, and the shoulders.
Good work though.

i like the model...but the color is kinda bothering...maybe add some more camo like markings or something...(stripes, dots etc...) check out some dino pics and stuff

I know the textures needed some work. I did have one with stripes, but ultimately it needed more work than that. Here's the same model slightly altered. I did this when I was still getting used to using Wings. When I finish my skull wip I'll see what I can do with this guy:

The one with stripes looks like he's had a nasty run-in with a T-rex, maybe yellow stripes would work better;)
But yeah, model looks good, maybe needs some more detail in the face area but the main thing is the textures are letting you done at the moment, dirty them up big time and go for more spec+reflection.

hmm...maybe try black stripes...now, i dont know how textures work and what can be done...but try and make em going from the top of his back...kinda like a tiger or some other reptiles with a similar design

GREat modle, you have done a wonderfull job on the preportions of the dino.
Well worth working with more.
ONly comment i have to say is
It looks like a plastic toy as opposed to a real life dinosaur, i think this is due to 2 main things. Firstly the textures give it a plastic look. and second the actual modle need to be tweeked to give it more Muscle!!
What i mean by that is if you look were the hind and front legs join the torso, you can almost see the primatives that it is made up of, its amost retangular to look at. It needs a more muscular look around these areas i think
Overall a great job.
