ok. I am trying to figure out the whole "stitch edges" process with NURBS. have multiple sufaces that I have managed to edge-stitch together nicely, but I am still left with ugly creases between some of them afterwards.

when trying to tweak the master edge CV's (translate or rotate) to smooth out the tangency, nothing really seems to happen.

any suggestions?

Its hard to explain without lots of pictures, but you have tangency problems. The average of the cv distances in height frome each other is not smooth enough for you yet. Sometimes all you have to do is rebuild the surfaces, but I'll try and talk you through it.
What you have to do is this: Select two surfaces, attach them, rebuild them, and delete the construction history. Then select the isoparm where they were attached, and split the two pieces apart again. Then repeat this process with one of those surfaces to another Nurbs patch. Attach, rebuild, and delete history, then seperate again. You have to do this everywhere to get the pieces as tangent as possible.
Then you can use a script from highend3D.com called tangentCVWin;
It will take some practice, but the results are very nice, even though you will have to take some serious time. It will get easier after you do it a few times.

Good luck.

wow. no wonder most people tend to avoid NURBS like the plague. :surprised

i think i get the idea, for the most part. just seems overly tedious.

know of any decent tutorials out there? most that i have tried all seem to drop the ball when it gets to this step, even the books dont explain it very clearly.

anyway, thanks for the tips. i'm still trying.

There is a thread here for a list of new tuts. But I don't know if what you want is in there or not. Theres over 600 listings for everything Maya, on one page. I had to learn it the hard way, at my school. And the practice is just doing it over and over, until it works for you.

you must do the same teselation to all the patch , in advanced teselation use the # of spans of isoparm set the value equal in u and v and deactive all the other options.

yeah. i have been through borisb2's entire list of collected tutorials. (extremely cool reswource btw) but none of the nurbs ones really get into this part of the process in any detail.

guess i just need to keep pluggin and will get it eventually.

thanks again.
