sneakergimp 04-19-2003, 10:56 AM Hi
i'm trying to create a swimming pool effect material within 4D
much like this one 'WA117' at Artbeats
http://www.artbeats.com/prod/search.php?pg=4&kw=pool&ct=&fm=&act=Search
there's a nice one at deepshade - but displacment maps look terrible on it
any help would be greatly appreciated

Oooh, they're indeed beautiful.
I tried a bit with 2d noise with Sema, that may be a way to achieve something similar...
Of course my try isn't anywhere near, but it's a good starting point for 2 mins of work... :hmm:
And it animates beautifully...!

Hello...
Try with that.. http://www.lysator.liu.se/~kand/caustics/ ..
it's caustics texture generator ..
Looks good
to follow up on kiril's example - if you use DiShaper to deform the poly object and a 3D shader in the color channel you get a nice pool animation - if you then place sema as kiril did, in the luminence channel but don't animate it, it will appear to be caustics (or froth) that move with the waves
and if you use penny you can make a looping animation - it isnt mathematically correct like the gnu caustics app is - but it looks ok
