View Full Version : WiP - Char - n00b eating wolf!
That Adrian Guy 04-19-2003, 04:01 AM OKiE, I guess I'll do this cgtalk style and post the concept pic first, followed by the progress pics as I go!
So... here you go!
http://www.geocities.com/adranmor/Wolfie.txt
I lost all of my other 3D models in the great hard drive crash of 2003... So unless I can find the ol' internet backup I did for the crazy cowboy, you're not likely to see it.
Anyway! What do you guys think? You don't think "n00b eating" is too rude, do ya???

Thanks again for the feedback, you guyz roxxorz!
(on a side note, has anyone here ever used a program called "reason"? It's an amazing music proggie, but it's really hard to learn!)
yeah I like it when you do the revenge you can make them throwing deformers at him so he is like all weird looking.
nice I cant wait to see more of it.

reason roxxors!!! i put ph33r in t3h whole neighbourhood while making the ground sh4k3 with the sound.
ahhhm yeah... ahhm i really like the program... ;) i don't think its especially hard to learn, just look at the demo songs they ship with it (as annoying as they may be). or see their forum at propellerheads.se
and btw: a nice wolf.

Ya reason is friggin great! I still have to sit down and get some more time on it. It's only hard if you don't have a keyboard and you want your own original sounds.
The wolf is looking cool! Love the eye! I'm looking forward to the progress! :D

Strongbad rocks so hard.
Anyway... I'll try to post some updates tonight!
Oh yeah, Medula, Marcom:
You guys learned Reason just by fiddling with it?
hmmm... it's a bit more intrinsic than that, isn't it?

lol... it's the truth in my case anyway... and that's because i really hate to read manuals. REFUSE TO RTFM!!! but then it took like one month of wasted weekends to really understand the way reason works. and the knowledge of other musicsoftware i used helped a lot.
That looks very cool  ....agree about the snout though :)
How about a new char added to the mix called Capt Plugin and he fires a particle emitter at the Wolf as the others try to reverse his normals..hahahaa :D
As for being a nOOb everytime I learn something new I feel like a nOOB :) It kinda goes like this for me "Getting there" "Starting to really get the hang of this soft",then just when you are least expecting its back to "nOOB status" again...ahahhaa :D

Excellent crit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was bugging me and I didn't know why!
Medula, Squid: Well... coming from you two, I'll make sure that gets done!
Kiwi: I hear you about the n00b issue! I still don't know why C4D does stuff, like the spinning bones problem... and the tank plugin... everytime you move the view around the tank moves whether you like it or not.
It's one of those issues that people will explain the answer, and I'll have no clue what the solution is... c'est la vie!
I should have an update tonight

Taper the snout just a bit more, not from the back forward though just from the front one third {the back is a good size already} :)

Looking Great so far! I agree with Stu about the snout. More of a a snarl type area would add to the presence of the character. Just make sure it doesn't mess up those perfect eyes! :)
Also, a gum-line would be good to add in as well! Make some of the teeth a little crooked maybe? :D

I love the support I get on this forum!!!!!!!!
Squid: I can't tell you how much I wish I had S&H... almost as much as I want R8!!!!!!!!!!
My modelling method is kind of strange, I build the edge loops by using the "add point" feature. Over and over and over.... I can't tell you how much I wish C4D would copy selected points instead of the whole mesh! That'd save so much time!
I delete twice as many poly's as I make, cause I keep finding "better" directions to run the edge loops... It pays off during rigging time though!
(I'm just a hobbyist anyway... time really doesn't matter. I dread it when people brag about how fast they are. Ugh!)
HUGE FAVOR!! Because I don't have S&H... could someone do a quick test on it to see how it would look with actual "hair?" That would be the coolest thing ever. (The C4D file is posted with the last update)
slouchcorp
04-25-2003, 07:00 PM
You can copy selected points using the structure manager,
Select your points go tp S/M change mode to points And use your standed copy and past hotkeys.
Is that what you ment?

Slouchcorp: I'll try that when I get home... if it works... I'm going to build a shrine in your honor!!
Flingster: Too coool!!!!!!!!!!!
Lookin kinda like sasquatch though! Anyway you can make the hair shorter, and thicker? Like coyotes or somethin?
I couldn't be more jealous right now:drool:
Nice character! Use the clone tool to copy points - itīs by far the fastest way to do it. Select points - right click - select clone - thatīs it.
structure copy points isnt gonna be working too well because with add points you can just build the points directly in with out have to bridge.
sweet, and that hair is really nice.
Looking good
Ears bud,Wolf ears he looks un balanced, kind of Seal like.... :)
Ya I have messed around again trying to get a more hair fibre type shader, and if you use subdivide to hell and use the bump as a displ map it works kinda ok,but its just not feasible for render times, thats why I said people do fur and hair with S & H or other plugin.

i think that the forms of the body don't mnix too well try to make the musclular structure more 'fluent' right now it looks like you haven't added the finishing touches to the char.
The pants look but but i believe that u should make them tighter to the legs.

keep the abs if you want them I have seen abs that look almost exaclty like that.
I mean its not like they are ideal, but in terms of physical possiblity they could happen.

the head looks a little too rounded from the front, from some angles he actually looks nice :) maybe make the ears a little more visible (ooh i see they're black on a black BG, nm that then) and sharpen up the lines.. like make his face a little more angular.
other than that the body is great, i'm gonna have to agree that the abs look a bit odd but the hair text makes them look better. and yeah the pants look a bit like rounded cylinders right now :)

looking at the 2 movies, i can see some stuff i couldn't before.. geometrywise, it's great, except that the creases between muscles seems a bit too sharp in places, particularly between the pecs and neck, and around the biceps. the reast is great tho :)
also, in the walk anim, there's something wrong with how his feet move when he picks them up.. it's like he's keeping his feet level as he walks, when they should tip down a little when he picks up his feet. and in the run anim, his head seems like it turns with the torso too much. i like the animations tho :) they portray weight well. nto bad for no mocap! ..unless you're hiding that you have a mocap machine in your bedroom :D

the run looks pretty nice.... but he walks like he's got something shoved somewhere.... if you know what i mean. since he's a wolf, i pictured him with more of a stalking walk, bending at the knees quite a bit more with each step... almost overly exaggerated.... keep it up though, it's fun to see your progress...
