View Full Version : Anatomy Study and Sketchbook of SpawnSC
SpawnSC 12-06-2007, 03:30 AM I'm new here and i'm very eager to learn and improve on my art work. I'll start by giving a breif description of my goals and expectations.
I'm wanting to learn anatomy so that I can draw comics more professional and to reach a personal goal of mine to draw a comic and self print or post online.
I have taken a figure drawing class about a month ago. I learn "some" but not a lot and left disappointed. I found this site and look forward to posting my art and getting feedback.
Some of my inspirations are:
Todd McFarlane
Greg Capullo
Jim Lee
Michael Turner
Nat Jones
Frank Cho
and many more..
I also will start to learn digital coloring once i get the hang of my anatomy. I got a Wacom and love it! but I prefer to draw tradional for now.
I have a personal art blog that I started and will post my work there also. Please take a visit and feel free to post comments. :)
http://www.JasonBurrellArt.com
and I also started a comic artist community http://www.HeroesHideout.com
I will post some anatomy studys tomorrow but I wanted to get my thread started so everyone can see my goals. Look forward to making friends and meeting new artist!

Wooo nice ref ^.^
hehe, seriously though you'll get good practice by drawing from photos, also drawing from life-i'm sure you got something outta that class even though you may not notice much, but it does take a LOT of practice, years and years, to be able to really draw on your own without ref. And there's nothing wrong with using references even so :)
You might want to check out: http://the-structure-of-man.blogspot.com/
IT's a set of tutorial videos that really give you a good intro to anatomy.
Plus there's all sorts of books out there like Burne Hogarth's Dynamic figure drawing, and also one I just got that I really like, Visualizing muscles by John Cody.

Hi and welcome. :) I highly suggest Anthony Ryder's book (http://www.tonyryder.com/a-book.htm), as well as Glenn Vilppu's Drawing Manual (http://www.amazon.com/Vilppu-Drawing-Manual-Glenn/dp/1892053039/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197022293&sr=1-1). When you combine approaches, you get something like the work of my beginning life drawing students, some of whose work can be seen here:

also if anyone can give me some personal pointers I would appreciate it. Thank you Rebeccak for the book recommendations. I got a lot of books but been to lazy to read them! i need to sit down and focus myself on reading them. I got the Bridgeman book on figure drawing because I've heard so much on it.

Blue Line is sponsoring a Sketch Card Gallery Exhibit
on March 8, 2008 at Comics2Games in Florence,
Kentucky. This show is open to all artists. Blue Line
will send sketch cards for the artist to do their
illustrations and Comics2Games will set up the display
for the event. The Exhibit will be up all day with a
get-together with some of the artists from 5 to 8pm
that evening. Then, after the show, the cards will be
auctioned on eBay with the proceeds donated to the
American Cancer Society.
Cancer has touched the lives and families of so many
artists and writers, faced with fighting this terrible
disease. So, consider taking the time to illustrate a
few cards for a good cause. Blue Line is supplying the
sketch cards for the show and will mail blank cards to
artists upon request to illustrate for this event.
The cards can feature most any characters (including
your own) with some exceptions on licensed properties
such as Star Wars.
For more information to contact Comics2Games at (859)
647-7568 you can contact Jeremy Bell at
jeremyb@comics2cars.com (http://forums.cgsociety.org/jeremyb@comics2cars.com) on how you or an artist you
know can participate in the event for this worthy
cause!
Pass the word along to all the message boards, groups,
bulletin boards and other outlets you know. Help the
fight against cancer and participate in this sketch
card event!
I'm personally going to be doing some cards myself as
well as ink some cards here and there, so if you want
to pencil one or two for me to ink, just let me know!
