Ok i have a problem with max and .png images that are transparent. The image is transparent in every other program i've opened it in, but not it Max.

This is what the texture looks like...
everything that's white is transparent.. i've saved the image as .jpg, that's why..

I don't know if Max supports the transparency for the PNG file format, but for a TGA image you have to set following settings for the bitmap in the opacity slot:

Alpha source to 'image alpha'
Mono channel output to 'Alpha'

Ofcourse it would be much easier to save the alpha in a seperate file, and use that bitmap in the opacity map...

thnx.. yeah well i need to use a transparent .png...
i'm making a game with the Torque engine and it only support transparent .png... the strange thing is that they write in the Torque doc to use transparent .png in max.. hmm... ok i read the doc again and it doesn't say anything about using .png. but it says that i don't need to put an alpha map texture in the opacity slot tho...
but then i could use .tga...

like Marcel said, you put your bitmap in the diffuse and opacity. in the opacity channel, change the mono channel output to alpha.
and yes, it worked with png.
