Cool, a gay pirate! I hope that movie is rated R. I doubt it will be, but it say's "not yet rated" which hopefuly means they need to make it sutiable for pg13. That's what I hate about the summer, all the big movies are pg13 so the kiddies can go see them.

You guys do know that disney is producing that right? I always wanted to see this becasue i saw gore verbinski was doing it. Now it looks like the same old same, old movie nothing new. Wait...pirates? hell its going to be great cause pirates=stupid people and that equalls comedy. With disney backing them up Comedy is like spare change to them they just give it away. Hey this may just be the most hiiiilarious movie of 2002.

Looks like it might be very good! But, then... they all do, don't they? I think Johnny Depp's presence is a positive indicator - he's an excellent actor who's chosen great projects. Pooh-pooh-ing it merely on the basis of it being a Disney film, or a PG-13 film, is silly. I'm still just excited about Matrix:reloaded -- who cares about the rest of the summer crop? HULK looks great, too.

I.... don't... comprehend Johnny Depp.
In this he talks enough like his character in From Hell that I can recognize him... but from the pictures alone, there's just no way. From Edward Scissorhands to Fear and Loathing and now this... how does he DO that?!! :argh:

Odd that this is being called a "first look" or whatever since there was a link to this like two weeks ago on aicn.com (not to apple.com tho i think). I am scared by why Johnny Depp is wearing more make up than Liz Taylor in this film though. But I'll hold out hope.

Yeah I saw this trailer before anger management. The first one that didn't suck and kept you wondering what the heck is the premise and hoping that the actors that are in it that consistently do good if not interesting work will do so again in this film. The only difference between the trailer and this website one, is they left out the silly orlando bloom part. So I am definitely looking forward to the film for sure. Depp always is involved with interesting movies projects. Maybe the twist ending will be depps character becoming one as well since the skull in the title portion is his. Perhaps to leave it open for a trailer?....hmmm maybe?

Heh, my point exactly. This film may be fun but I doubt it will be good. There are too many obvious "look we're making an action film" flaws in it like that makeup on Johnny Depp, and cheesy lines like "I don't believe in ghost stories... Oh no? Well you'd better cuz YOU'RE IN ONE!" Hilarious. Oh well, this summer is gonna be crazy with all these big movies.

I can't believe people find it hard to believe that Disney wouldn't want to cash in on something... like turning every DisneyWorld attraction into a movie and vice-versa... This, Haunted Mansion coming soon, etc....
I also can't believe people are surprised that Jerry Bruckheimer would make a cheesy movie...
Lets review, shall we? :
Bad Boys II (2003)(just wait, you'll see...),
Kangaroo Jack (2003), Pearl Harbor (2001), Coyote Ugly (2000), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), Armageddon (1998), Con Air (1997), The Rock (1996), Dangerous Minds (1995), Days of Thunder (1990), Top Gun (1986)...
...to name a few.

I wish it at least looked fun but I don't think it will be either one. And i just read in a post that it's a bruckheimer movie, so I'm positive it will stink. Armageddon is the worst movie ever right along with Batman and Robin and Leonard part 6. Doesnt' matter, X2, two matrixes and another lotr movie, should be a great year for movies.

Why is Depp wearing mascara? Well perhaps cause pirates used to wear the same type of stuff as football players to reduce glare. U know what I mean the black lines under the eyes. Imagine the glare u get on the open water. They wipe it off, smeers on the eyes and since people don't bath except once a month if lucky waah la.
Or alternately perhaps its a sad attempt to give a more persain quality? who know?

Top Gun was not a cheesy movie! That is one of my favorite movies of all time!
From what I have read in this post some of you cannot take a movie for what it is! This movie is going to kick some serious ass!
it is not going to be like anything else this summer I can tell you that. It may not be the biggest blockbuster but it will be in the top5...IMO
p.s. WTF does wearing make-up to look like a pirate have to do with how good a movie is going to be....Thats like saying Keaneu Reeves looks st00pid in sun-glasses so M2 is going to suck!

Well Saint, you see, when you study film history, part of how the audience percieves and enjoys a film is based upon how you percieve and enjoy characters. Steroetypes and "looks" play an extremely important and heavy role in determining how a character is recieved. For example, take a character from LOTR, lets say... oh, Frodo. If you cast Shaquille O'Neal in the role and put him in a dress as his outfit, then no matter how well he read his lines it would change the film drastically simply from the way you will recieve him. Of course, this is a drastic example but it still illustrates the point.
Oh, and yeah, Disney owns half the planet anyhow so I don't understand either how people can be concerned about it being Disney. But oh well. We'll have to wait and see.

ANYONE HAVE A DIRECT LINK TO A .MOV FILE?
malducin

Well it might be Bruckheimer, the big budget mega cheeze guy, but not everything is bad. I would be worried if they had picked a first time director, but they got Gore Verbinski who directed The Ring and The Mexican. The screenplay is from the same guys that wrote Shrek, so at least I'm confident it'll be good, regardless of Bruckheinmer's involvement.
As far as this trailer and website it's actually old news. The trailer premiered on all Disney owned TV channels on Sunday April 6 I believe. That's why Orlando Bloom is on that clip, he introduced the trailer that way on TV. The website has also been the same for several weeks if not more than a month like that.
I had a link to the trailer in Quicktime but can't get to it right now. I did download it though. If I get the link I'll post.

Another one to put on my must see list. This summer is going to have so many good movies, I'm going to spend so much of my salary at the theaters it's not even going to be funny.

Looks like an awesome - and 2/3 good-looking - cast. Still, I can't take that topic seriously.
Really, who is interested in pirates today?
The only place where pirates are still famous in entertainment is Metroid Prime, and even there you only kill them.
:) Anyway, cheesy, Toby
