A Hearty Laugh

http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs24/i/2007/336/6/5/A_Hearty_Laugh_by_DigiSketchWolf.jpg

I've improved in my painting a bit and finally had a really good idea! i've been drawing stuff like this for a while on paper until it poped on my head to do it in PS. i'm gonna try and finish this one and fight my laziness :P. plus if my school work doesn't get in a way i may be able finish it soon(if i'm lucky).

i'd love any comments or critiqe's

personally i think the nose is a bit awkward....

Update!

Ok so i finished the skin(for the most part) and now I'm gonna move on to the lips. I'm also gonna try and see if i can make the top of the head more shiny. any suggestions would be nice.

I'm sorry, but i don't really see that he laughs. I see he's screaming something. :wise:
I suggest you to rework his face to add some smile to his face and really show that he laughs. Try to look at laughing people at google or something... :lightbulb
In addition, i can say that your shading isn't so good. Maybe you must try another brushes.. round brush with hardness set to 0%, other dynamics on, shape dynamics off and a near-middle opacity and flow.. Try it, but lock transparent pixels first. Or put mask on the face layer it to hide everything else(if you won't use locking), but the face.
I wish you luck in this attempt.

UPDATE!

the whole entire mouth is still VERY much unfinished...

Answers:

1. no i'm not adding any hair this time

2. you maybe right, looks a bit like a happy scream...

3. what i used was a hard edge brush with pressure sensitive flow and thickness(45% min), the smooth brushes give "blured" look rather than a "painted" look...the other brushes i've tried made it look dirty (on other sketches i've done). might just be me doing that, but i did what i thought looked best...

Here's a 10 minutes overpaint i've done for you using a round brush with hardness 0%, other dynamics on(both of em) and shape dynamics off:

..and you still don't like these "blury" look? =)
I tell ya. These brushes are the best for shading e.t.c.. Especially for a skin shading, couse it has to soft and smooth surface.

Where's the top right side of his face?

Granted, he's stylized, with his cranium the size of a squirrel in comparison to his jaw, but he still needs an upper cheekbone, temple, and part of his forehead on that side. Either that, or you need to cut off about 1/4 of the jaw and lips on the LH side of your canvas, and eliminate the angle of his right nostril.

The coloring of the lips looks great!

ok well, i still don't really like the smoothness...works for other things but i don't like it with this...but one thing i did get from that is that the colors should be a bit more vibrant...there a bit dull and greyed....kinda sepia-ish...

also, yeah i do need to add that other side :P

Maybe you should build his face first? This way you'll never mistake again.. Of course the prespective is a bit hard, but anyway.. it's better.

whoa...well i'm coming back to this! but i'll start over on the coloring...this is kinda bad...a bit dull in color... anyway hopefully the next version will look far better than this :D

cya!

p.s. oh i get what build the face means...and that sounds like a good idea... i might just redraw the whole thing...i do draw alot of these...but none with a build...
