Morbid Angel 04-18-2003, 07:20 PM Hello everyone. Here is my latest project. It is a bmw z4 cobra prototype. I have done this model based on the design of the prototype of z4 roadster. Modeling in maya 4.5 with smooth proxy. Rendering in 3ds max with vray. Render time on amd 1.8 with 1gb ram 10 min per frame on 800x600 with glossy reflections. No HDRI or lights have been used.
The interrior is still work in progress.

excellent modelling:eek: , but like some said, those tail light aren't powerful enought.. and the "wheels" (rims) do not have the BMW style...like smooth-rounded...
the model it's spectacular, but only this two thing i've noticed..

Great model !!
You have my respect !!
:surprised
A few questions:
*Out of how many polygons does your finall model exsist ?
*How long did it take to model it
*Can you post some wire frame views
*Why did you use V-ray and not Mental Ray for Maya ?

Excellent modeling :bounce: - you should send it to BMW , it's an awesome prototype.
it's a serious a$$-kicker !
How did you convert your model from Maya to Max anyway ??
can't wait to see the wallpaper :)
(1600x1200 plz. - people with less can allways downsize without loss)

Hi guys, here is the technical specs on this scene:
Modeling in maya 4.5 with smooth proxy.
The whole model is a single solid piece modeled in low poly.
When brought in to 3ds max 5, I assigned meshsmooth to it.
This allowed me to see model in low poly in view port and have it as high poly as I want in render.
Curent model state is low poly 8 000 poly for the body, weels are modeled as well but that a different poly cound, because of the protector.
In high poly the count is 550 000 poly for the body.
Rendering specs:
Vray 109.u
hsubdiv 25
pass -3/0
AA adaptive subdivision
Environment
Skylite - Ramp 1 (skylite)
Reflection override - ramp 2 (reflect) they are different
Lights - 0
HDRI - no
Glossy reflections on the disks and tires
Ground plane has a reflection of ramp 3 and is not reflecting in the car, however there is another plane below it that is not visible to the camera but is reflecting in the car...it is just darker\
Skylite ramp looks like this
http://www3.telus.net/public/vinnik88/skylite_R.jpg
reflection ramp
http://www3.telus.net/public/vinnik88/reflect_r.jpg
Final render time per frame 800x600 10 min with glossy reflections...which i think is nice.

I'd hate to go over speed bumps in that, or over sleeping policemen, or anything with a slight incline. The whole model is surweet, but the front around the wheel makes the design impractical. I still want one though:thumbsup:

ok i love it but i have a question..
How is the driver going to be able to see straight ahead of them? the way the car rides makes it look like the front is 10x higher then the rear and the seats are leaned back =\
anyways awsome model, I just wanted to point that out.

Yeah looks cool!
But it's not a BMW!
Poor driver, he can see nothing :thumbsdow
Nice ShowCar, but nothing to drive with.

neat car, but like many sports cars you see out there it is not very practical. Looks like the front end would get scraped up very quickly and there looks to be about 1/2 inch suspension travel, that would not be a nice ride :p

Morbid Angel:eek:  :applause:
as a previous owner of the car line (z3 & M roadster) i gotta tell you i LOVE THIS...my lease of the m roadster ran out and i was thoroughly unimpressed with the z4...way underpowered and crap ass design....if this had of been sitting in the showroom i wouldn't be here writin this, i'd be out tearing up the roads (especially if it had 300+ hp)
you made my day....needless to say, i have new wallpaper...thanx thanx thanx

Holy %!@#%!
That is just awesome Morbid Angel :)
I want to order this baby right now !!!!!
You MUST make an animation out of it, put a nice and heavy Dodge viper engine (or some other heavy duty engine) sample underneath and make this baby roar the streets :D dang !
