I recently discovered subD`s and I am liking them alot. I have hear rumours of different ways of working with them but wondered what you found to be the best ?

I heard that you could create a low poly mesh, rig it and paint the weights etc. Then convert that mesh to a subD with Poly Proxy mode enabled, this gives you a high and low poly mesh to animate with.

The problem I have then is I can't go in and crease any edges on the subD mesh, if I try I get this -

Error: Cannot change creasing on a subd surface with history.

So, am I to presume that I will have to work on the subD model alone ? I mean create that and rig that version...

I really don't start my models out as subd's. I do alot of modelling with poly first, then for detail work I go in with subd's and let loose. For setup bind level 0 to the skeleton and for animation set subd display to 'hull'. I personally think it's better to do animation with a cut up poly model that is parented to the skeleton, up dates super fast.

Thats the way I have worked in the past. Had a high poly model purely fro rendering but had a low poly version parented to the mesh for animating.

It looks like I may have to do the same for this. Have my nice subD model rigged etc. then have a low poly version for animating.
