I've looked at a lot of tutorial/artist site/forums and some books, but I have not found a technique yet.

I'm looking to achieve the "Painter" look/effects but in Photoshop

All I basically want is to know the Best way to not see the brush strokes/edges. What technique do you guys/gals use so it looks like you used the Blur tool on two colors.

Painter is probably best for this, but i REALLY REALLY want to use PS

I want how Drumwhore's sketches comeout

thanks for your time

i dont remember the specific setting for my brushs , but you could make your own to suit your need and purpose :) , anyway the most regular settings in photoshop brush ( to me ) are :
Spacing
shape dynamic
wet edge
anyway , there are brush collection that ready made by other artists that you can download on the net somewhere ;) !

Any tips on what the Opacity/painting mode/hardenss/brush shape do you reccomend for what I want to do.

i tried lower opacities than 100 and the mode was Multiply for example, but the problem is that I don't have a lot of control over the darkest color, it will keep multiplying it till it's blackish.

If I can not find ANY way, I guess I have to Learn Painter...but I'm already Sooo comfortable in PS

Ok TheShero,

I hope I can be of some help. I've got PS working pretty much the same way I work in oils. So in that respect, working from thin to thick in oils or in PS depends on how much paint you have on your brush. I almost never work at 100% opacity. Prefering instead to build up as I go at around 65% opacity. Also I work on normal layers to build up color. Not multiply.

I normally keep my shape dynamics turned off for certain brushes. Choosing instead to use the same 4-5 brushes that mimic the flat bristle brushes collecting dust in my studio. I have color dynamics set to pen pressure and let one color bleed into the next by the amount of pressure I apply to the tablet.

As far as blending edges, I stay away from blur tool functions. Hardness isn't a factor unless you are using the round brushes. I stay away from all of the rounds because they scream photoshop. to blend edges I drop my opacity down to between 30-12% and go over the hard edges with a midtone between the two colors. If more work is needed I'll use the smudge tool with shape dynamics and scattering turned on. Something I picked up from Olijosman awhile back.

I haven't seen your work or know exactly what type of look you are going for but instead of trying to make your stuff look like it was done in painter, why not study the work of some traditional painters and try to make some custom brushes and play with settings to mimic the real thing in PS. It's possible and much more fun that having to learn a whole new application.

Good Luck

EW

OMG I can't believe EricUNSL replied to my post, I've had your "love piece" as my Background since....forever, it's a really great picture (the pic on your avatar...the Big version heh...)

Thank's a lot for the tips, will try.
I keep wanting to fight time.

Art takes time...I know I know, but in a studio environment, they'd want you to work fast, so I'm trying to keep a balance and work fast.
