I have a 3d shape that i want to create however its quite complex to make so i decided to use a transparency map; i made my alpha and set it in the transparency slot

however im having a small problem and i dont know how to fix it:
see image below..

as you can see the inside of the 3d box are "hollow"
i want the object to appear 3d.

is there a way to fix this?
or project an image onto a surface and it displaces the mesh in regards to the image?

here is the image im using.

this is my first time using maya so any help would be apreciated. I usualy use 3dsmax

You could map all sides of the cube with corresponding textures but you would still have a load of gaps and critically, no depth. How close is the camera going to get? Card techniques are generally used for bg objects because the illusion breaks down at close-range. The best solution would be either to model the object or recreate the profile as illustrator curves which you could import and then extrude. At the very least you want to model the outer edge of the object (specifically its depth), the centre cuts could be fudged if necessary but the outer edge can't really. You may also be able to use a combination of displacement map/transparency map but I rarely use that funky stuff so perhaps someone else can advise if thats a go-er!
