uhm yes... that's why I asked.. I guess it's obvious that this effect is achievable in AE but I'm a max user and a big noob to AE...

I would just like to know what direction I should head in.. a tutorial or some advice thanks...

check out riot gear at videocopilot.net. it costs money but the ink effects appear to be just what your looking for. however that trailer was pretty full - it looked like someone just clicked every single preset in some places :D i am sure it is achievable in AE but it would take a long time. i think that the vid tutorials are your best bet.

trapcode's particular seems to work good to... for look-a-like effects.

i guess with some trial and error you could achieve something similar...
...like some semitransparent fluid effects...

haven't tried, though.
