Made in Maya 4.5 and some texture work in Photoshop7.

Another overuse of DOF.... Modelling looks ok (hard to tell with so much blur) but ease off on the dof....

Here is another render without the depth of feild... personally I thought it looked good, but I definatly wanna hear what other people have to say so the critique is much appreciated.

Very nice model and a very nice rendering!!!
The only thing that I'd like to comment is that the surfaces, while being single color, is actually single color. No surface in the real world is made with a single color. To achieve a higher level of photorealism, add a couple of subtle fractal noise layers to the surfaces with colors that differ slightly from the main color. This will add a bit of variation to the colors and make it perfect.

good job with the modeling, render. I agree that some noise to break up the colors could help. How bout adding some smudge marks on the keys or perhaps some dust and grime around the edges of the keys and other parts of the keyboad. I know the keyboard I use to have had all kinds of places that I just couldn't clean no matter how hard I tried. Overall looks good.

Come to think of it, when I was making this image... all I could think of was making it perfection. But I didnt realize, that the keyboard itself wasn't perfect....
I think I will try some of the suggestions here (ie noise, fingerprints, grime etc)

Thanks for all the input, I'll try and post an update soon.

Well, I was havin a hard time with the dust and fingerprints and whatnot. Nothing looked right so I abandoned it... This is a final render of the keyboard with some GI. Thanks for all the comments.

With DOF it looks almost like Digicam + Photoshop! I like it in it's perfectness without stains and scratches. Would be hard to build a better one...

Persoanlly I think the DOF is still tooo much.. If the idea is to reproduce this object liek in a product advert you woul dnot have more than half the keyboard out of focus. IMO the defocus would not start past the last four controller knobs as at the distance you can't read the labels anyway. It may be a matter of compositional taste but I think the blur here is dminishing the image rather than enhancing it.

im workin on some global illumination right now... the above pic is faked GI. I think in one of the final renders I will remove the DoF or move the focus distance farther down the keyboard. Thanks for all the input.

Nice Job, thats one detailed keyboard!:applause:

The only beef i have is that what i assume to be "settings rollers" to the left of the keyboard seem to be just slicing into the surface of the keyboard. How bout giving that area some small indentations to make the rollers appear to continue into the keyboard?
However, if im totally wrong about the purpose of those wheels(im going off ancient times when i owned something resembling a keyboard) feel free to disregard this post haha!

Well the pitch and mod wheels dont actually come in contact with the surface of the keyboard, there is a small space for them to rotate in.

I definatly see what you are talking about but if I expanded them to fix the problem, the keyboard wouldn't be true to life. Maybe a better lighting configuration would fix it. I'll have to experiment.

he's right... there should be a space... also there should be spaces in which the buttons are placed, not just on top of the surface itself... the wheels also have some issues, they look jagged on the edges.

Hey, looks like a pretty good render. Except above the volume control on the upper left hand corner there should be a brand name label that says "KORG" and I dont see it. Therefor you fail. Sorry Kyle.

-You wonderful teacher Tom.
