Title: Fallen empire
Name: Kirsi Salonen
Country: Finland
Software: Photoshop

Cheers again.. here's my latest installment.. took a few days but I'm glad I "suffered" that much with it.

I could write a book about how this was made, and another book about the story! Hehe.. ok, let me just say that the bg is a place I visited last years October and took loads of great photos there (if somebody knows it, I give him/her a big hand and an ice-cream with strawberries).
--
Then I now combined and modified the pics heavily, re-coloured and someways painted some places over. Had so much fun doing that! All other things are painted only in CS2.
--
I started this work as an attempt to do a matte painting practise, buuut.. you know how it can easily go to another direction... And I'm a person who craves a story in every picture I produce so just couldn't settle with only a landscape scenery.
--
Alright about the story... (It's from my unfinished book called 'Ordera')
--
A young emperor is fatally wounded by his own people while stopping them killing the boy who flies one of the feared 'equu dragni''s. He manages to escape with the hurt emperor, to desperately seek out the one person who can help to save him.

Hope you enjoy looking this and comments are most appreciated. Here's some close ups.

wonderful, Kirsi! There is so much dynamics and movement in this picture - just as if it´s a snapshot from a movie. Absolutely phantastic. I love the perspective and the details as well.

your "fan" :)

Danner and Vinta, thank you so much!

PaulAbrams, much appreciated! I'm so happy that you like the architechture as well, since the area is quite new to me to explore. Getting quite excited about it! I checked out your gallery and it really rocks man!

Michael, thank u!! it's great that you keep an eye on my busybusy time.. that's very true. I just decided to really push myself towards new things and challenges and cut some old habits away with composition and style. Now it's great to continue this direction with a lot of new experience about different subjects :) I'll be jumping in to a comic-illustration commission next so all the speedpaints and others really now come to use. Can't wait to get to get it done..
It's always great pleasure to read your comment and get a boost from it mate!!

Marco, oh man that was a very cool compliment my friend! The feeling like it would be from a movie was the thing I was after.. it means a whole lot to me you see it that way too :). In fact made a lot of new discoveries in colours, perspective and technique while making this that it makes me all warm and cuddly inside, hihih.. would like to share all my thoughts about them but it would take a few pages to get them all out :D

Thank you inframicrobe, glad you like it!

SirNeo, pleasure to read your comment.. yes, I think it is a sad story too, but luckily these both guys play the main roles of the story so nothing truly tragic can happen at this point ;)
