well....although I certainly can't critcize anyone since I can't make ANYTHING yet, there could be stuff to be improved.
First of all, methinks you need to make the main parts of the creatur clearer.....it's hard to tell or comment on something then one can't even understand anything in the pic...also, the fins on the fins are sorta weird....:surprised
but still, It look pretty cool. Kinda like how some creature may look 250 million years from now....
and just from the colors, I know that I would NOT want to be near one of these...:scream:

It's great, but I think you should post some viewport screenshots, and then a beauty render.
I think ppl like to look at the model too, not just at the final image. specially when its a fantasy character.
be well

Image looks great but you cant see much. Is it a great image because the subject is at an angle that doesnt reveal much? Id like to see this render at a different angle. Great image though
eah Nice Image and design,
I'd also like to see a view of the 'face' [if it has one] but the mysterious angle also works for me.
The image would make a great album cover for dance music act or similar.

First of all, I like your render from the original post better, the colors are more vibrant and its not all blue. Second, the fins near the back make no sense, an aquatic creature would not have fins that have the flat portion facing the forward direction or they would hardly be able to swim. It's not too bad other than that and the caustics or simulation thereof looks good.

Why did you post this twice?
I have merged the threads - please don't do it again.

I really like this one. especially the first where it seems like it's just about to "swat" the camera with the tail.
one thing though.
the two fins, with, eh, fins on them...
you should definatly change these. either by removing them or by placing them somewhere else over the body of the sea creature. maybe along the back or the underside of him.
I wonder... are there any textures on him or are the colours all projected through the spotlight?

First of all, sorry about the duplicate, and thanks for the merge!
About the design:
Far fom now, I understood that creating things just to look cool or different is very risky. Things that are cool for U might not be for others. But things that are made with a functional reason are more powerfull.
As a designer, I always try to do things by a good reason.
I'm not a nautic engineer. And I might be mistaken.
Those weird fins are not for "styling" proposes.
Yes, they causes some trouble to swim. It decreases speed I hope (when wide open).
In fact, I apply them to allow the creature to brake quickly.
In the picture the creature is decreasing speed while turning left, that's why the left one is more open.
All details were taken in count.
The striated tail to increase fluid direction.
The head fins to make him fast turn up and down.
Its nose it's very up in the head because the head is too heavy for the nec, making it very difficult to put all the head out of water, so with that nose, it's more easy to breathe above the waves, with no need to jump.
Textures r spotlght projected.
Thanks for the C&C, please continue!

Nice pic...but I do have two comments:
1. the water caustics reflecting on the creature are way to hard and bright.
2. the background could be improved to increase the realism by adding some particle effects that look like crill (one of the most basic acuatic organisms that fill the ocean), or it can be done in a photo retouching program for a still pic like this one....
Overall good work, keep it up and work on that always painful last 10% of tweaking.... Later!
