I was wondering whether it would be possible using after effects to get an effect similar to the one in this video by crystal method below (1:15 in).

I did a quick search of the site, but the responses seem to all be related to 3d apps.

Thankyou very much for your help wise ones...

One way would be to build all blocks in AE with 3D layers. the plug-ins on this page (http://www.nabscripts.com/Downloads/downloads_en_1.php?id=5) (create Box and Create Cube) could help you with that.
Another, expensive, option would be to use Zaxwerks Invigorator (http://www.zaxwerks.com/invigorator_pro/index.shtml) to build the blocks.

And if you don't care to much about realism you could try to pull it of with masks and dropshadows. You obviously lose the ability to pan around this way.

You can also try this:
http://maltaannon.com/after-effects/ce-shapeextruder/

It's not a full 3D, since the objects disappears when you rotate 90degs around them, but in other cases it looks pretty well. Try it out.

Thanks guys, I think the shapeextruder is probably the one.

As a side note, does anyone know how to make the radius of the shatter effect smaller than 0.1? Less than this and it appears to have no erffect.
