Hi, this is my first animation project, that I'm doing for my self.

Basically just trying to learn how to animate well. I'm learning it on my own, using tutorials.

I'm using this animation practice to make a character for the M.U.G.E.N 2D fighting game engine. It's a free program for creating these types of games.

I'm making a 3D version of Shang Tsung from the Mortal Kombat games, but with my own moves, game play mechanics design, etc.

I'll probably replace the low poly model I'm using now with a nice high poly version. This is just a sloppy one I did in one day.

This is my very first real try at animation in 3ds.max.

This is a dash or running attack. The forward movement would be done with code in M.U.G.E.N.

And the second one.

The redish ball is to be replaced by a giant flaming snake. It's from the intro FMV for Mortal Kombat Deception.

If they are animating slow online, download and play them with quick time.

critiques are welcome.

A few more moves.

The gifs will play faster if you download and play them off your hard drive.

Anybody know how to rotate the entire biped, so it all moves as one. I wasn't able to do this for the last gif ^^^. I would rotate the biped object (diamond in pelvis) and the bones just got all twisted, tried selecting all the bones at once and rotating, but again they get all twisted. It was driving me nuts, but I was able to do the animation anyway.......one bone at a time.....

I'm using 3ds.max

This is a costume for the high poly version of this character I'm going to use for the final animations.

Hi Gabe,

first, i would say the global timing of your 3 animations is really too fast. you should scale your timeline like about 140%. i guess it will seems to play more naturally.

In details for each of them, by strongly practiing martial arts, i can advice you to amplify the extreme poses and to have your steps more defined to give more punch to your whole animation.

hope this could help,
remi

Thanks for the critique

Here's some stuff I did before reading your reply.

I'm making the animations a little faster than normal on purpose because this is going to be for a 2D fighting game, very fast action.

Magical flaming snake special move around 20 feet tall, dives at opponent.

All the fire animations were done completely in Photoshop with layer styles and basic gif animation.

Fireball sound effect I made it with Audacity, a free sound program. It's my voice plus some edits.

Fireball explosion on contact.

New concept art for the high polygon model I'll use for the final animations. To replace the low poly one I'm using now.
