View Full Version : WIP: Denver City 3D Matte Painting
redfuzz 04-17-2003, 07:06 PM This is a still from a production shot that was cut due to editorial reasons. It was done right around the time of 911 and I think the producers of the show didn't want anything to do with ruined sky scrapers going on air.
It is a post bio apocolyptic matte painting of Denver city. All the adults died of a plague leaving the world to the children, this is 25 years after, when they have grown up and are living in the ruins of society.
Never finished, still many things I'd liek to change, but probably I won't find/make the time to do it...anytime soon anyway.
I'd love your comments. What are the most detracting things that still stand out.
thanks

Ya, it bugs me too, the fog shadowing is a bit harsh and too linear...I'd like to re do it with a moving textured more wispy low lieing fog.
Thanks for the comments.

you know what bothers me.. the small buildings in the middle range from the camera look out of place.. they dont "blend" in...
I'm having that problem with my current project too :\

Ya, I was thinking of putting in a shit load of antenas, heating ducks, tents and look out towers on the roof tops. It might help break up the horizontal lines and blend it all together more...We'll see.

Ya, there is alreay a lot of junk on the ground, I could copy it around a bit more. Mostly I think it need lighting properly to show it off, but the roofs do need more. I have some tent city models I may scatter about up there.
Thanks for the comments

I like it alot but also feel that something is missing. The very first thing that popped into my head for some reason is that something needs to go on in that open square almost right in the middle of the pic. The lines are very balanced so attention is drawn to the middle. My crazy messed up brain thinks there should be fire there, but ya'know, I may just be a Torch. :)
I think the problem that everyone is seeing with the shadow, is that the moon, although it is full, is behind a layer of clouds and seems to be giving off way too much light. In any case, the light source being behind clouds should disperse the light and not allow for such a sharp shadow.
Those are just my thoughts, but you dont have to listen to me 'cuz I suck at this stuff. hehe. :)
