View Full Version : Creating fluid without surfaces

Hi all,

I need to have objects carried in a fluid...the camera will be in the fluid. How can I show movement of fluid? (There aren't any bubbles in the fluid to show movement). I'd like to show various types of flow like a vortex etc.

Note that as camera will be in the fluid, there won't be any 'surface' as such.
Also, fluid will be 'clear'.

one way would be to use after effects to displace the background image shown through the fluid using textures you make in cinema in the shapes of the flow (then just animate the u or v offset of your texture, so make sure you use 2d noises/textures).

if there is a bottom you could use caustics or volumetric lighting.

There won't be a real 'bottom' I suppose...

How does one displace the background image in after effects?

Would I use 2D noise set up as flow lines to show direction?

Is it possible to show a vortex or flow in a clear fluid using c4d only
without post effects?

Thanks for any more ideas.

hmm one way, which would be hell on your processor. Is to use volume caustics. but the render times would be extreamly long.

Maybe it is possible to use invisible particles with some refraction?

wait a second remember those big underwater chase scenes in Phantom menace. the creatures in those were largely stop motion animation in some sort of blue foggy room.

maybe do some sort of reasearch on that kinda thing.
