Hi all

After the book (which I haven't finished, but..yeah...anyway)New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, I became more intrested in learning to draw, and next to that, I'm writing a (fictional)story, which the skill to draw, is going to be an essential.

So I searched the net for some cool books, which I'm going to number (for example: 1. [author][title][genre])

At the end, I'm putting some books together which in my mind, makes up a great combination for that subject, and up to you'll to confirm or decline it.

Let's start:

1. Drawing the Head and Figure, Jack Hamm, Figure Drawing
2. Drawing Dynamic Hands (Practical Art Books), Burne Hogarth, Hand Drawing
3. Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life: Over 1,000 Illustrations, George Bridgeman, Figure Drawing
4. The Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression, Gary Faigin, Facial Expressions
5. Drawing the Living Figure, Joseph Sheppard, Figure (Optimalisation?)
6. Animal Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form, Eliot Goldfinger, Animal Anatomy (and drawing?)
7. Drawing and Painting Fantasy Landscapes and Cityscapes, Rob Alexander & Martin McKenna, Landscape
Some additional information: 1. Yes, I know there is a sticky by Stahlman of Book Recommodations, and looked at it, but he only recommended a few books, not all genres. 2. English is not my native language, and although I have no trouble reading it, I prefer it to be simple English and not any (local)slang words etc..

So, these were the books, now the combination:

Combination 1:
Drawing a kind of alien-like theme (mutated animals and all spooky and stuff, "real" humans and landscape.
Books:
1,6,7

Combination 2:
Making still life, realistic envoirment, realistic living objects.
Books:
1,2,3,4,7

I don't know any more combinations yet, so please, judge my current ones.:
Are there any suggestions to make made with my; - book list / -combinations? Like other books or more books in one combination?

There's a book I think is better than Hogarth's folds/clothing:
http://www.amazon.com/Drawing-People-Portray-Clothed-Figure/dp/1581803591/ref=pd_sim_b_img_34

I have both, and while Hogarth's is nice, I really hate the way he draws--his drawings have the sensitivity and subtlety of a jackhammer. He's someone I think of as a technical artist, with no elegance, expressiveness, or finess (just my opinion). Barbara is much better IMO.

Right, thanks for the reply.
But is this book only on clothing or does it also include realistic hand drawing?
How is it explained?
For the Beginner/Intermediate/Expert?

Lunatique:
What is your, say top 10 on best books? And about all kinds of subjects (like envoirment etc)?
I do want to give money for it, but I want good books which can teach me everything you can draw in the right way.

Oops, I misread and thought you had Hogarth's book on drawing clothing folds/wrinkles on the list--that why I suggested Barbara's book instead.

As far as my list of books, have you looked at the sticky threads in this forum--they're listed in there.
