We are looking into getting some new workstations and want to run Windows XP 64bit.

Although Adobe doesn't officially certify it, in theory it should run ok.

Anyone have any feedback - good or bad - on running it on 64bit XP?

Thanks!

do not listen to any B.S out there on the web about lack of drivers, you'll be setting a workstation not an all purpose computer right ? then.... get a 64 bit system period .. YES AE supports a 4 core processor.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON ANYTHING 32 BITS.

Thanks, and yes its not a general purpose machine.

Right now my only concern is plugins like trapcode, composite wizard, knoll, etc. Anyone have any problems with them?

No, not really. All plugins I posses work fine.

Hold it, 64 bit with after effects. In the mac it can only use 4 GB of ram and i read from adobe that is a 32 bit program, can it take full advantage of RAM on Xp 64 bit?

I also use an Quad Core processor (Q6600).
I have 4GB of ram but i still use Windows XP Pro 32bit with the 3GB switch.

Does AE CS3 make use of the 4 cores in 32bit also or only 64bit ?

Thank you for reading this.

Here's my understanding: Yes its still a 32bit app, and 32bit apps on a 64bit OS won't be able to use all RAM, but each app will have its own 2G memory space to play in (or is it 3G? not sure.) So - although there's not much of an advantage to running a 32bit app on a 64bit OS - at least I can run other apps that are 64bit (like Maya), and later as Adobe and other vendors release 64bit versions of their apps then I'll be good to go if already running on a 64bit OS. If any knows if any of this is incorrect please let me know.
