View Full Version : WIP: Concept Vehicle: LTSV
mattclinch 04-17-2003, 02:44 PM First off...hey everyone... joined yesterday and had a funfilled 3 hours browsing...great site you got here.
So i thought i show some stuff im working on...im in awe of some of the work ive seen here though.
I call this my LTSV (Light Tactical Scout Vehicle) - its based mainly on the Halo buggy/Gorillaz video/Final Fantasy (TSW) buggy.
Started off with no concept sketches...just letting the ideas flow and tweaking as i go. Its in the very early stages and needs a lot of work...
Critiques welcome.
PS. Rendered using e-light max-script and modelled in Max 5.1.

It's a really really nice design, lemme give you my opinion and hope it helps the development, 'cause i'm really looking forward to see it finished and maybe with some dude running it on an unfriendly land ;o)
First or all, the gun on the top is not that useful, 'cause it can't move, rotate or anything.
Build a little sensor on a side or on top of the gun, so that the driver can pick targets and the gun can auto-aim at 'em, that would be cool, and kinda expected technology from such a car.
Build more protection for the pilot, he could get hurt badly or fall out from the buggy right now.
Now, i'm italian and i dunno how to explain that thing but i'll try anyway :o)
See, you should build some arms between the tires and the buggy body, 'cause right now the baby will crash on a jump.
Got it? The car is supposed to go up and down because it's meant to run on wastelands, i suppose...
Build a big protection on the front so that lights will not get damages.
that's all i can think about right now, maybe i'll have more ideas when you post a new picture of it, man.
but for now, accept my compliments 'cause i really like it, expecially those tires, see ya!

Cheers jampoz... im assuming your talking about some sort of suspension... i'll try and add some...and some bull bars at the front as protection...very good idea...hadn't thought of that before...ill see what it looks like. As for protecting the driver and the gun.. exactly what i was working on next. Im gonna add some sort of inner roll cage and im thinking of changing the gun to some sort of auto-aimable and pivotable ( i really like that suggestion...nice work) chaingun. also gonna try and get some tyres on it too.... will post an update later on this evening.

Suspension, that's what i'm talking about, stupid me, should have used that dictionary but there's too much dust on it :o)
Glad you like my suggestions, truly can't wait to see new renders of that baby ;o)

jampoz dude the vic looks good, i agree with Hardnox , but I also think if this is a game model you should go easy on the weels, the poly count must be huge..

Hanzo, i think it's not a low-poly game model 'cause he wouldn't 'waste' polys modelling the 746 on the front then, right?
PS: Believe me I'm the first one here who say that the LTSV looks extremely good, that's why i gave him my opinion. I usually shut up when i see things i don't like :o)

replaced the gun... now got a minigun.. tried to make it pivotable on two axis.. not too sure about that design...base needs work. not detailed enough yet... but im building it up slowly.

Just trying to work on the suspension a little bit... also doing wires to the gun...compression adn hydrolics etc... and bullet chains.. then i need to sort out the rear.

Really nice!
So you going to make a bullet chain coming out from the gatling?
Watch out 'cause it's a fast moving vehicle and the free chain could hurt the pilot just under it (expecially after you build suspension), so find a way to make a chain that can't move much
Try making a trail from the bullets storage box to the gatling, so the chain ain't free to hurt him :o)
You're worried about the back, well you could put the bullets storage box on the back, so you get the chance to add some details there.
Can't wait to see the buggy body with smooth edges, it must look real good!
Spend all your free time on it 'cause it will turn out sweet! ;o)
PS: Should we think of it as a present or a futuristic vehicle?
EDIT: Yo! Don't forget to build a GOOD seat belt system! ;o)

What does everyone reckon to racing netting over the rear section of the side? added a bit more detail to the seat and console area, started some seat restraints (note these are not belts, but shoulder supports... you have to get in and under them...then belts start where they finish) and i started smoothing the body out a bit. steering wheel concept is in..not sure if i like it...needs tweaking.

there ain't no traction on those tires!

He could add traction using a good bumpmap later
I like the way it's turning out, really
I'm not sure about the chassis... i think it would look better with little smooth edges, don't smooth the whole body

Cool. But here;s some tips. An LTSV like urs is basically based on a scout rover, right?
So it's not supposed to be heavily armored like an HMMWV or stuff like that. Try having an independent 'dip 'n roll' suspension system along with cool details like a differential. (Believe me, it LOOKS cool) Next, try having a sort of 'upright harness' system for the gunner so he doesn't fall down. I'm supposing he shoots the minigun while standing. As for the rear, don't make the mistake of adding extra fuel tanks or ammunition canisters, cuz a single bullet COULD set 'em off.(*Not that anyone will notice that tiny detail*).
So, the front? It should have some underside armor because u dont want the engine smoking and burning after a particularly bad case of cross country.
Thats all I can think of NOW.
Keep up the good work and don't forget to add seatbelts!
