View Full Version : Human Proportion
test8052 11-27-2007, 03:01 PM Hello Guys and Gals,
I've got some questions about proportion.
From Loomis book, Figure Drawing...
A male's proportion is 8 Head Units from Head to Heels, Height (Front View)
2 1/3 Heads Wide, Width (Front View)
How about Side View? How do we measure the Width in Side View?
Thanks.

Keep in mind these types of formulas are very "average" and do not accomodate all types of people. It's better to look at photos of different people's body profiles according to the body type you want to depict.
But typically I draw about one head for the body thickness at the chest, then relate the rest of the torso to that depending on body type.

yup, you are correct about the average type, I was measuring at it. Thanks for your suggestion, and I'll try to study other photos of different people as well.
