View Full Version : LW 9.2,9.3 scene files won't load
heynewt 11-27-2007, 12:09 PM I've done several searches on this forum, and I can't find the thread discussing this issue. But LW's new scene file format which emerged with 9.2 will not load into Messiah. I can still load pre-9.2 scene files.
I'm sure this was discussed, but like I said, I can't find the thread. Anyone have any info on this?

I'm just curious as to why you are trying to load a Lightwave scene into Messiah? What is in the scene that you need to transfer to Messiah?
Messiah is not the only app not compatible with Lightwave scene files now. Modo nolonger supports .lws either.

When I used to use Messiah years ago for some character animation, I was able to load the entire LW scene file. The reason you do that for character animation is because it's easier to animate a character who has to interact with its scene when you actually have the objects from the scene there in the same space as the character.
I realize now the "workaround" is to load the interactive objects into Messiah beforehand and then sync those to Lightwave. In my case I've been asked by a client to go back to some very large complex scenes created years ago and add a character to them.
Messiah's manual clearly states it can load Lightwave scenes. They did that for a purpose, the one I described above.
As for Modo, I don't use it so I have no thoughts on that.

You can export scene as 6.5 scene from LW. Messiah will then be able to read it.

Thanks for that tip.
Well, that's certainly a workaround. In my case it's a pain, because I need to use the features of 9.2 in this particular scene, but I can shuffle scenes and objects around and make it work by doing a 6.5 export.

What specific feature is it you need to have remain in messiah that the 6.5 format doesn't support?
