View Full Version : How paste something to same position as cut?
White Knight 11-27-2007, 12:16 PM How do I paste something so that it ends up at the same location where I cut it from?
(CTRL+F (or B) in illustrator)

One technique I know of is the "Paste Into" command.
1) Select the item you wish to copy -- that is, make sure it has the marching ants around it.
2) Hit Copy. Make sure the marching ants are still going (do not de-select)
3) Under the edit menu there is a "Paste Into" command. Select this option.
4) The object should now paste into the same space as your original selection.

OR just make your selection and hit Ctrl+J for 'jump'. It's amazing how many people don't know that very useful command. I heard about it from a total training DVD.
edit: that copies it into place rather than cutting it...

The thing is that the 'Paste into' was greyed out at the moment I wanted to use it.
Oddly enough it works now, so maybe I had just missed something.
Thanks for the clear instructions.
And now I have CTRL+J in my bag as well. Great! =)
