Has anyone ran into this problem before? I'm usually able to spit out one playblast, then, after that, Maya will render about 10 frames then lockup the playblast thread.

You can imagine how useful Maya is without the ability to playblast. I've tried changing all of the playblast settings, including where the file is saved, and nothing seems to make a difference. The only solution so far as been to save my work, and restart Maya...but that is a very ugly solution.

PLEASE HELP!

Yes, I´ve also experienced this, on an XP system. I *think* the problem was that I had this automatic internet connection popup window that would sometimes come up during a playblast and lock up the playblast after abouit 10 frames (the screen would go white, and I´d have to wait until it calculated the whole playblast before it gave me control again- of course, the playblast only had the first 10 frames of the sequence though)... I´m not sure, but will have to test it more. It seemed to work better after I deactivated the internet thing, but I´m still not entirely sure.

Yes, that sounds like exactly what I am running into. Hmmm, I'll check to see if any window is appearing, but why would it allow me to do it once?

As you mentioned, the screen goes white, and if you wait long enough, Maya will finish the playblast, but the resulting playblast has no motion in it.

Since the Maya GDI window stops responding (until the Playblast completes), I thought it might have something to do with my video driver, but updating it made no difference.

This is a known XP issue:

http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Community/Support/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_45_NT.html

Information Specific to Operating Systems:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows XP

Limitation: Under some circumstances, when playblasting an animation, partway through, the playblasting ceases to be updated. Attempting to ESC from the playblast may cause a hang.

Solution: None.

Damn, and now they're releasing Maya 5.0. Did they even release ONE service release for Maya 4.5?

I sure hope they continue to support 4.5. I've never been able to render using Mental Ray because of another bug, and now I cannot playblast.

SIGH.

Hopefully these XP bugs will be fixed in v5.0.... If not there´ll be hell to pay...!

Reviving this thread. Has anyone had this problem with Maya 6 yet?

well the solution is to change the themes from XP to windows classic.
I had the same issue and it seemed to work fine now after i got rid of the XP theme.
