View Full Version : question: How to construct mesh from these curves?
Houkah 04-16-2003, 09:15 PM I have a large amount of curves that i need to make a mesh out of. I imported them all into maya the problem is the topology of the curves varies greatly. Here's an image so you might get a better idea of what i'm talking about.

is there any way to construct this? I think lofting is pretty much out of the question. Can i attach the curves together somehow and make patches? Any suggestions? BTW it's a heart, the curves came from the visible human project. (using adobe streamline)

it won't be easy but you can still loft these curves. first you will need to rebuild them so that the # of spans for each curve will conform with one another.
break the model down into sections. in each of these sections determine the lowest amount of spans you would need in order to get the appropriate detail and then loft.
if you're working under time constraints, i'd suggest working with polys and then using smooth poly once you're done.
hope that helps

[edit] also just to keep things sane, hide each group of curves on its own layer while you're working on the individual sections.

Yeah, I think any way i do it i'm looking at a lot of tedious work. A friend recommended using only the curves that really matter to define the heart and using them as guides for a poly model. I was just hoping for some way to automate the process a little. Thanks for the help.
