View Full Version : [Maya]Two textures, different Uvs, same object

Hi everyone
so basically I have a textured object (in Maya) with huge UVs : I scaled them up so that the texture easily repeats itself (they're walls). But I'd like to add some details, cracks, moss, whatever, on top of this. That is, of course, at precise places, like at the bottom or at the top of the wall.
I can't add them on the texture file since it is repeated several times on the surface. I tried to put a basic second object englobing the walls, but it needs to be too far from them or else there are overlapping issues. It ends up floating in front of it. Plus, it needs some transparency.
I tried with a layered shader as well, but I encounter the transparency issue again.

Is there a way to superimpose a second object on top of another one to create such an effect ? Or in the other case, can you add transparency to textures, and show two different textures and UV sets for the same faces at the same time ?...

Hey Marien

the layered texture is the way to go, you say you had transparency issues, did you set the top texture to multiply?

Hi.

If you are only doing this for a still shot then one way of doing it would be to just create a new UV set for the objects, texture them again and (with the cracks and what not) and have the backround color white.

Then you could render out 2 passes, one with the clean wall and another with only the cracks and dirt and composite them togather in a image editing software.

Useful tut if you go down the UV set route;
