View Full Version : freezing transformations
seb4d 04-16-2003, 06:09 PM Hi,
I've downloaded XSI EXP 3.0 and try to learn it, I come from Maya.
In Maya when I create an object, move it around and freeze its transform node, the object stays where I put it and its transform node is set to 0 for translate, 0 for rotate and 1 for scale.
In XSI when I freeze transformations they are set to 0 0 1, but the center goes to the origin of the world coordinate ! How can I make it stay where it was like Maya's default freezing operation ?

For XSI, Freeze Transformation always resets every SRT property of the polygon object, regardless where it is placed, as (1,1,1) for Scaling and (O,O,O) for Rotation and Translation.
I don't think there's a way around it. Sorry.
But resetting SRTs can sometimes be a good thing.

yeah what mitodafox said is right. but i dont find any trouble when their srt are brought back to 0,0,0 ... you can always use the COG button to rotate stuff in relative to the object you selected.

It's the same problem that I've when I try Maya, coming from XSI, but the answer is simple: they're 2 different ways to work, also if they're some similar programs.

The global center of an object is based on its immediate parent. If the object is not parented to anything, well it is parented to the scene root, wich is sitting at 0-0-0. If you want, you can make your object child of an object, and if you freeze the transformations, its center will be moved on its parent.

seb3d, if you want to bring ur center back into the geometry, once u froze it, select ur geometry and goto - Transform / Move Center to Vertices -, that will place the center into the "middle" of the object, without modifying the rotation or scaling.
hope this helps,
