Hey guys, I'm new to the whole Maya thingie (been using max for about 2 years). Anyway my question is related to Maya cloth (or any other simulation in Maya that can give me a cloth-like look). Basically I have this character where I have modeled the pants as a part of the actual model. So I'm not going to have the pants as a cloth simulation. HOWEVER, I have a piece of cloth that I want to sort of drape over the pants. More specifically, it's tucked in the waistband, but needs to react to the movement of the character. Imagine a bartender with a towel in his belt that would bounce and react as he moves. My question is this, can I have the "towel" as part of the geometry, and then say select the faces that make up the towel and make it "cloth" and then select the rest of the character's faces and make them collision objects? I've never used any cloth or soft bodies in Maya, so please be as thorough as possible, or at least point me to some resource or other that can help me. Thanks.

for cloth you probly have to make it a separate object.
try using a jiggle deformer instead. i think that one can be applied to faces. and its lighter easier to set up.
