Hi!

Just wondering, has anyone run Cinebench2003 on a Centrino laptop (with a Pentium-M processor) yet?

I am looking to buy a new laptop in the near future, and it would be interesting to know how a Centrino compares with the traditional processors regarding C4D...

Or if anyone has links to any comparisons featuring Centrino and C4D, that would be nice as well!

Thanks,

Pate

Hello Pate..

There are some models with desktop processors too..
Check http://www6.tomshardware.com/mobile/index.html for some tests.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the link Aries, however I am looking for a fast but silent laptop, so the desktop processors are out of the question..

The new Acer Travelmate 800LCi looks interesting, it has 1400x1050 screen (my current laptop has only 1024x768), can have 1Gig of RAM, but the processor is only 1.3GHz Pentium-M
(the 1.6GHz version is more expensive than I'm willing to pay).

If I have read the Pentium-M benchmarks properly, a 1.6GHz version equals about 2GHz P4 on integer operations and up to 2.8GHz P4 on floating point operations. I think C4D uses mostly floating point, so a 1.3GHz P-M might be about as fast as a 2.2GHz P4 with C4D, which would be pretty good for a low-noise and low-power laptop... I'd just like to see some real CineBench results. :)

Sounds very good...

Anyway, I hope Acer has some Ati cards in the laptops.. 9000 mobility are nice.
I don't know Cinebench results on laptops.. sorry
(i've seen only with Xeons .. and wooowww)

Good luck with the laptop thing :)

Yep, the Acer Centrino models have Ati Mobility Radeon 9000 with 64MB RAM.

One more reason why I'm very interested in them. :)

Hi!

I just today got my new Acer TravelMate 803LCi Centrino-based laptop. Practically the first thing I did with it was to run CineBench 2003. Here are the results:

CINEBENCH 2003 v1
****************************************************

Tester : Pate

Processor : Acer TravelMate 803LCi
MHz : 1600
Number of CPUs : 1
Operating System : WinXP

Graphics Card : Ati M9000
Resolution : 1400x1050
Color Depth : 32bit

****************************************************

Rendering (Single CPU): 215 CB-CPU
Rendering (Multiple CPU): --- CB-CPU

Shading (CINEMA 4D) : 230 CB-GFX
Shading (OpenGL Software Lighting) : 1053 CB-GFX
Shading (OpenGL Hardware Lighting) : 1818 CB-GFX

OpenGL Speedup: 7.89

****************************************************

I haven't upgraded drivers or anything, these are straight out of the box.

Pretty neat, my new lightweight laptop is slightly faster than my P4 2.2GHz desktop machine when rendering, and a LOT faster than it in OpenGL.

Just in case you are interested in the Centrino technology.. The Centrino (or Pentium-M) seems to be a little bit faster than an Athlon XP processor running at the same speed (in C4D).

That's pretty good!

My Sony VAIO Centrino 1.3 GHz gets around 187 CB, which is almost dead even with my 1.67 GHz Athlon (XP 2000+). The OpenGL performance is pretty good, though the Mobility Radeon apparently doesn't handle hardware lighting all that well. Other than that, it's very smooth.

On my new Powerbook 17" I got this:

Rendering (Single CPU): 55 CB-CPU
Rendering (Multiple CPU): --- CB-CPU

Shading (CINEMA 4D) : 70 CB-GFX
Shading (OpenGL Software Lighting) : 189 CB-GFX
Shading (OpenGL Hardware Lighting) : 94 CB-GFX

OpenGL Speedup: 2.69

Which is wierd as using it, it feels much faster than my old eMac which scored almost identically.

Guys,

I have a brand new Dell Latitude D800 w/ 1.6 PM, 40 Gig 5400 RPM HD, and 1024 RAM. I'll be getting a copy of XL8.1 next week so I'll run CINEBENCH and post sometime next week. I previously owned a Precision M50 Laptop, and 4D 7.3 ran pretty fast w/ the 700GoGL. Will let you know the results of my Dell soon...
