Hi, i was just wondering what you guys use when u map UVW for your model, I'm working in max, and just discoversed, that deep UV , which was great, doesnt work with the latest release, i personally think that the new stitch tool in max 9 doesnt work too well.... what do you max users use for mapping? what app do you recommend?

I use the Headus UVLayout app which is perfect for organic uvmapping. Quite pricey unless you're using it professionally, in which case the time you'll save with it will make your money back quite quickly.

I'm working in maya and mostly I just use the planar mapping and cutting edges and then the unfold feature. If it's a whole character(body & head) I use Sunith Parekh's excellent(thank you!!) unfold script(which I can't remember the name of. sorry Sunith) and then the maya unfold feature.

you can also try RoadKill, it's a very simple but very usefull mapper.. i like it's stretch texture and it can easily be integrated to Maya too.. i'm not sure 'bout max though... i tried headus' too which is great but it's not free so after the trial i just went back to RoadKill..

I just tried Headus and Roadkill, and despite Roadkill being free i will break my piggy bank and go for Headus :P , its great, now I just auto map front and back / top bottom, and use Headus's auto weld function and flatten brush to finish, its a major timesaver. I think that later on i will do everything in Headus but i dont have time to watch the tuts.

Thanks for the help guys!

I used headus uvlayout alot and it was awesome. but I could not figure out how to unwrap multiple uv channels on mone object. VUlayout reorders my vertecies so I can't just paste uv's from what was edited in headus

Does the new professional version allow multiple mapping channels? It looks like Road Kill supports multiple UV channels.

I use max, usually just a combination of everything, usually pelt mapping with relax for organic models, never had any problems and gets the job done nice and fast. Other than that just cutting seams properly and relaxing seems to work just fine for me!
