hey guys i have another question

i need to render a scene

on of my objects is close to the camera and i need it to be in focus and the rest (background) out of focus

i tried using the custom option on the depth of field shader but i cannot find the right settings

please help out if you can

i tried the tutorial but i was so lost i didnt know why it wasn't working
i think my passes were all messed
but here you guys go


i need the character to be in focus and the background to be out of focus i just need the proper settings

Dude, to do such thing you don't want to use dof. You will mess a lot with the parameters, and it will take time to render. Plus, if you want to do modifications, you'll be in trouble.

Instead, render two passes. One for the foreground, one for the background. Then blur the background in post.

if you have to the time, its worth playing around with true 3d dof. when its done right, it adds a depth to your image that 2d dof just can't mimic...

And I will take the middle ground of Atyss and Berserker posts you can render out a depth pass and use a comp program for ultimate control using a minnum of time and prossesing power.
