Hey all, I downloaded the file twice and both times the file does not play all the way through. It plays perfectly until it gets about 20 seconds in (after Mike saves). Then, the frame freezes and I can't get it to start playing agin.

Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone help me out? I would love to see this model being made. I love the drawing!
thanks a lot!!!

Sounds like you're still using DivX 5.02. Make sure you grab 5.03 and you should be right.

I'm downloading it now...

No problems viewing. I'm using divx 5.03.

It's always nice seeing how people approach their modeling. Mike seems to use the "shape out a box and go nuts with the edge tool" approach. It's also interesting that you do most of your modeling in the non subD mode. Interesting to see.

Mike, how long was the actual/real time building the demon?

This is great! I love watching these kinds of things.

eagleice: Dont right click and choose save target as or use some sort of downloading program, it will just download an html file. You need to click on the link and it will open a new page, there you can wait for it to start downloading or you can right click on the link and choose "save target as"

lol...this was my APUS (Anti-Pop Up Softare )

nice video, thx to Mike RB

but wouldn't it be better to post the link in VIDEO TUTS THREAD (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53893) ?

Maybe a mod could a make a sticky of the video tut tread?

Mike RB

its not really slow enough to be a tut

eagleice

hmm, don't think so

with the Media Player 9-series you can slow it down, and so i see no problems at all :buttrock:

It's heartening to see that I do the same basic things when I model, although you clearly have about 1000x the control over what you want.

Someday I will be this good, damnit! :bounce:

I suppose the Mac divx isn't up to speed - I get to where he saves and then nothing. Oh well. Nice drawing.

Very nice timelapse Mike. Will we ever see a second part where u continue working on the teeth/nose and other protruding bones?

awesome!

What program do you use to capture it so you can do this timelapse?

Kvaalen
04-16-2003, 07:18 PM
Cwang: if you notice it is written at the top left "Unregistered Hypercam". He used Hypercam to record it and then resized and sped it up in another program.

Nice, different style than what I'm used to for adding geometry. What was the frame capture rate you set Hypercam on? >a frame per second?

i did a character just like that recently using lightwave
here is a pic http://www.purgatory.net/joe/ogrepics.jpg
how are you adding points and making everything work
do you just fix everything after you add the points?
i wish u would talk over the video explaining how u did it:P

this is a great vid tho thx for sharing.

You know, as I was watching this modelling, I was thinking this is pretty cool, of course... but then the thought came to me.

He looks like as if he's building a 3D spider-web. I mean. Just look at the web work of a Spider, then compare it to how the mesh is designed on this guy. I don't know if anyone else has made this comparison before, but I'd thought I'd just throw it out there for people to get the concept in their heads.

I've been modelling off and on for a while, and lately, this is the same method I've been doing in what stuff I barely get half-way finished.

So, cool job! You should do a part 2 of the modelling doing all the details and accessories for the guy too!

actually its just a 3d luvr sever issue- it does that a lot. guess a few 100's of us trying to download it at once isn't helping :D

very nice! Althought I did have to turn the play speed to "slow" in WMP so that my eyes wouldn't go spinning.

Ahh, the edge tool is not a default feature. It should be :D

btw sorry to partially highjack the thread
can u subpatch and use the edge tool.
is his whole model just polys or is it subpatched?
what im asking is can i get away with not making everything a 4 point connecting poly if im using the edge tool like in that vid

No you still have to stick with four quad polys...
Tris sometime work but leave seams and other things that are bad, sometimes.

If you use the edge tool you still have to keep all this in mind.

hmmm ok i think i get it
its just an easy way of adding points while box modeling. like a more exact band saw or knife

Just curious, do you have two instances of LW open up? It looks like the upper left quad is a separate window. If so, why do you do it like that since that quad isn't being used it seems you could just load image into that instead of a separate LW window.

No, just one LW open. What he did was load the image in the Image Editor and then while its open double click on the image. That would then open it in a new window that shows just the picture... Then he just positioned it over the area where the top viewport is usually located. :)

Willax, one option is to use irfanview. Itj's just a viewer. You can set it so the images stays on top of all programs. You can also resize images. An excellent viewer, found here: http://www.irfanview.com/

Set it to view you .jpgs and other images, set it to stay on top and you're done. Otherwise, just set the image in the viewport, by going "d", backdrop, image, load image in Lightwave.
