i can't think of any books, but I can think of websites:
http://www.thinkdan.com/
http://www.stridingstudio.com/tutorials/
http://www.spoono.com/
http://www.pixeljunction.com/
have fun. The Adobe Photoshop Visual Quickstart is a good book to get primed, but I'm not sure about how well it covers advanced texturing techniques.

oh yeah, Photoshop Visual Quickstart is really good for noobz. The entire QuickStart series of books is really great for any multimedia app.

I think theres a book called 'digital lighting and texturing'... if I got the title right it is a fantastic book. I took a look into it at a library and it was really comprehensive. Try and find it and you wont be disappointed.

The PhotoShop Wow books for whichever version you use are a great source of tips and tricks for just about every facet of Photoshop use. The 'Classroom in a Book' series are good for actually learning Photoshop if you're newer to it.
