Hey everyone,

I just rendered my shot and was told that it's too dark to use. I've been told to use final gather to brighten things up. Of course the final gather image looks better, but these weird square shadows have popped up and I have no idea why. The window shaped shadow on the bed has also disappeared. I don't know very much about lighting and I appologise if these are noob questions. I really need to get this to work though since thise shot will go on my demo reel. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix my problem, please let me know.

I've attached the images so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

You know, I don't even think you need FG with that scene. Although it does need brightening though.

Personally, I'd just put in a rim light to highlight the kids face and bring it out from the background a bit more, use a fill light or two and an ambient occlusion pass. By not using FG it'll be faster and you won't encounter any flicker problems if this is an animation, by using FG that great window shadow is lost too.
